Founder, FreedGen Ltd
Michael doesn’t come from a boardroom.
He comes from the ground.
His career began in South Africa, completing a four-year mechanical engineering apprenticeship in the gold mining industry, followed by military training and service in the South African Defence Force. This early experience built the foundation for a career defined by discipline, precision, and resilience.
With over 15 years in renewable energy construction, Michael has worked across the UK, Europe, and international markets, contributing to the delivery of nearly 1 gigawatt of solar capacity.
His experience isn’t theoretical, it’s built on real sites, real pressure, and real accountability.

From large-scale utility projects exceeding 300 MW in Poland and Spain to complex multi-team operations across Europe, Michael has seen first-hand where projects succeed—and where they fail
At a critical point in his career, Michael made the decision to step away from the industry for a year—not to slow down, but to reset perspective. Frustrated by declining standards and poor execution across projects, he invested his time into restoring and building a derelict six-bedroom boutique hotel in Mid Wales from the ground up.
Set in the heart of the Cambrian Mountains, close to Hafren Forest, the Unicorn Hotel is a fully operational hospitality business—designed, built, and run with the same principles he brings to construction; attention to detail, accountability, and pride in execution. It also serves as a unique venue for team-building experiences, retreats, and off-site collaboration.
FreedGen was founded to solve a growing problem in renewable energy construction - a lack of independent oversight and real visibility on site.
As solar projects scale rapidly across the UK and Europe, construction teams are under increasing pressure to deliver quickly. This often leads to inconsistent quality, communication gaps, and limited insight for developers and investors.
FreedGen was built to bridge that gap.
By combining hands-on construction experience with modern technology, we provide clear, unbiased reporting that reflects what is actually happening on site - not just what is being reported.
FreedGen was created to bring this real, on-site experience into a structured service that improves quality, visibility, and accountability across renewable energy projects.
FreedGen takes a practical, no-nonsense approach to construction oversight.
We don’t rely on assumptions or second-hand reporting. We focus on what is actually happening on site.
